High Harmonic Generation soft X-ray source
A table-top High Harmonic Generation (HHG) source for the generation of coherent soft X-ray pulses from gas jet targets is driven by a high repetition rate Ti:sapphire amplifier @ 800 nm wavelength (10 kHz repetition rate, 0.2 mJ pulse energy, 5 fs pulse duration). The laser pulses are focused on a rare gas (He, Ne, Ar) nozzle target in a vacuum chamber generating High Harmonics of the fundamental frequency up to a photon energy of ~100 eV. Characterization of the emitted High Harmonic spectrum is performed by a flat-field soft X-ray spectrograph.
The HHG system allows for collinear combination of optical (fundamental 800 nm, Second Harmonic Generation 400 nm) laser pulses and High Harmonic pulses with interferometric stability, which is required for optical-pump/soft X-ray probe experiments.
A differential pumping stage with integrated beam monitoring and spectral thin film filters enables steering of the optical and High Harmonic beams into Ultra-High vacuum experimental end stations.
